Soyoun Kim
Photographer (Sydney NSW)
I joined the cinematheque study group as the interest of creative media works in Korea. Starting with the big hallucinated eraser head figure and blood squeezing roasted chicken on the dinning table in the movie of David Lynch, full of imaginary visual stories by fascinating directors led me to study filmmaking and television arts in Canada. Back to Korea, tried to continue the study of Media Production and since then, traveled the world which gave me the richness of cultural experience.
Seeking for my own tool, still camera gave me the freedom of the expression. For the passion of the still camera, came to Australia and studied photography. The beauty of hand printing led me to all type of alternative photographic processing including photogravure processing which is the combination of photo processing and etching technique. This has led me to become involved with traditional printmaking works such as silkscreen and etching.
I have been creating portrait and landscape images, mainly sourcing from photographic images and crafting to various printing media including photographic processing. Each different printing medium enable me to add the expression through the processing which complete the portraiture of inner sense affected by the environment and vice versa. I call them myself ‘abstract portraiture & landscape’.
