Linda Sherman
Painter (Sydney NSW)
Born in New Zealand, Linda came to live in Sydney in 1980. After years in the corporate world, Linda discovered where her real passion lay. She has done various studies from Still Life, to Life Drawing and Abstract at the Workshop Art Centre, in Willoughby, Sydney and recently completed a Diploma in Creative Visual Arts, (where she received two awards for Creative Colour and Design), at the School of Colour and Design, The Rocks, Sydney. This course has inspired her abstract paintings with compositions which complement homes and offices.
Linda has sold her paintings through Interior Designers, Private commissions, and a group and solo exhibition at Gallery 307, Northbridge, Sydney. She works with clients to interpret their needs and makes sure the are happy with the final outcome. She currently paints from her studio in Northbridge, Sydney.
Linda has also done a series of paintings which are a contemporary view of Italian scenes, based on a recent trip. From tangerine coloured buildings to the blue/green sea, these paintings reflect an observation of people, their lifestyle and surroundings. The vibrant colours of the Italian coastline are captured in full.
ARTISTS STATEMENT
"My preferred medium is Acrylic Paint on Canvas, using various layers and textures. I use brushes, and scrapers and any other utensil that helps me create the effect that I’m looking for. However, what inspires me the most is colour. Using a range of neutral shades that work in today’s living spaces, then adding splashes of colour."
"After experimenting in various paint forms, I am always drawn back to abstract. My inspiration comes from every day urbane living. I see shapes, reflections, colours, shadows and textures, which stay in my mind and come together on the canvas. Sometimes a painting may turn out as I had envisaged but other times it may develop further, and I may be surprised by the outcome. I paint what I feel. Abstract allows me to freely express myself. Every painting is different. Every composition is a journey."
